ED FRINGE REVIEW Flo & Joan, Alive on Stage

★ ★ ★ ★ ☆

An hour of social commentary told through deliciously catchy, beautifully imaginative and incredibly funny songs.

As Edinburgh Festival Fringe shows go, Flo & Joan's latest hour, Alive on Stage is a joy from start to finish and the hour absolutely flew by.

Their opening song welcomes the audience to their show whilst making it clear who isn't welcome. These include racists, Brexit supporters and Piers Morgan.

What follows is an hour of social commentary told through deliciously catchy, beautifully imaginative and incredibly funny songs. Songs about sexism (lady crisps), sex (sex robots) and marriage (an excellent alternative wedding song).

One tip from me though is to make sure that you do some vocal warm-ups before entering the Pleasance Cabaret Bar as they invite the audience to join them on a terribly tongue-twisty song about a cracker-packer Queen.

The negativity the sisters receive online has been well documented in the past and also features at different moments throughout Alive on Stage. With a book full of replies the sisters each take to the mic to read out a number of brutally honest and brilliantly funny replies that they would have sent if they ever were to reply.

Just when you think you've seen everything the girls have to offer, the sisters embark on a hilarious closing number which sees the show end on an almighty high!

If you're not easily offended and enjoy smart, sharp comedy told through song then this is definitely the show for you. But they are selling out so book quick.

Flo & Joan: Alive on Stage runs until 26th August at 4pm at The Pleasance Courtyard (Cabaret Bar). Book tickets here.
