Daniel Lawrence Taylor will oversee the US remake which will be produced by Grammy Award-winning artist LL Cool J.
Time travelling comedy Timewasters launched on ITV2 in the UK in 2017 and was the most watched new comedy that year for 16-24’s on any digital channel in the UK.
In 2018 the series was BAFTA nominated for Best Scripted Comedy and its creator and writer Daniel Lawrence Taylor who also stars in the series was awarded the RTS Breakthrough Award.
During an upcoming interview with I Talk Telly, Daniel said "We're hoping to make an American version of Timewasters and LL Cool J is set to produce it. It's all very early days but I met him in LA a few weeks ago."
Since 2015, Grammy Award-winning rapper LL Cool J has served as producer on the hit Paramount series Lip Sync Battle which he also presents alongside Chrissy Teigen.
Timewasters centres around a four-piece jazz band from South London made up of Nick (Daniel Lawrence Taylor), Jason (Kadiff Kirwan), Lauren (Adelayo Adedayo) and Horace (Samson Kayo) who in the first series end up in 1920s London high-society after getting into a urine-sodden South London lift that just happened to be a time machine!
In the upcoming second series, the band are transported to 1950s London where the future has arrived, the birth of the teenager, slick-haired Teddy Boys, the vibrant Windrush crowd, box-fresh televisions and crucially, the dawn of Rock n’ Roll.
And it seems as though LL Cool J has his sights set on a cameo in the next UK series with Daniel also telling I Talk Telly that after their meeting, LL Cool J asked him to "write (him) a guest role in series three" - "It's my goal to squeeze him into series three in any way, shape or form. He's such a busy man that I'm just hoping filming doesn't clash with his schedule. But we'll see..."
No casting or further details about the US remake are known at this stage. You can read the full interview with Daniel here.
Timewasters returns Monday 11th March at 10pm on ITV2
