Alan Carr’s hit comedy Changing Ends returning to ITV1 for two further series

Both series will be filmed back to back.

ITV1 has announced that Alan Carr’s hugely popular comedy, Changing Ends, will return for not one, but two further series after becoming the biggest new half hour comedy launch on any channel this year.

Since the series 1 launch, Alan Carr’s semi autobiographical comedy has been streamed over 13 million times on ITVX and been nominated for various awards, winning Best New Comedy at last year’s I Talk Telly Awards. You can watch Alan’s acceptance speech here.

Changing Ends is based on Alan’s own life in Northampton in the 1980s growing up as the son of a fourth division football manager.

Alan stars as himself in the present day, whilst Oliver Savell takes on the role of young Alan with Shaun Dooley and Nancy Sullivan playing his parents, Graham and Christine.

On the news that Changing Ends will return for two further series, Alan Carr said “To get your own sitcom recommissioned for a series is the most wonderful news ever, but to have TWO series recommissioned is utterly mind-blowing and such a huge compliment which I do not take lightly.”

“I know how much this show has resonated with the viewers and I promise I won’t let you down, and for someone whose actual life at times feels like a sitcom, believe me there are more tales from my childhood to be told. Two series commissioned eh? My dream of Changing Ends becoming Northampton's answer to The Crown becomes two steps closer to being a reality.”

To which ITV’s Head of Comedy, Nana Hughes added “Changing Ends continues to grow into becoming one of our most popular comedies with audiences clearly loving the early adventures of little Alan Carr. The cast is simply superb and the heart warming storytelling has clearly struck a chord with our viewers.”

Written by Alan Carr with Gabby Best, the series was co-created by the late Simon Carlyle and both upcoming six-part series will be produced by Baby Cow Productions, directed by Dave Lambert, produced by Mollie Freedman Berthoud and recorded back to back.

It’ll be executive produced by Baby Cow’s Sarah Monteith and Rupert Majendie, Alan Carr and Danny Julian.

Speaking about the news, Baby Cow’s CEO Sarah Monteith said “We’re delighted that ITV have trusted us with not one but two more series of our hit comedy Changing Ends. We’re having fun with Alan’s early-teens era, it’s getting emotional!”
