An explosive week lies ahead as EastEnders celebrates its 40th anniversary

Here's EVERYTHING you need to know about the 40th anniversary week.

 15-21 FEBRUARY

Love is in the air in Albert Square as bride Honey and groom Billy get ready to tie the knot, with family and friends rushing around making the final preparations.

At No.25, Sonia begs Bianca to attend the wedding with her, convinced they have to try to return to normality, despite Reiss still being on the loose. But Bianca is less than impressed to run into Grant, which triggers a row.

Following a revelation from Priya, Ian and Cindy have a huge row at Kathy’s café and hell-bent on exposing her attacker, a raging Cindy interrupts the wedding celebrations in The Vic to make a shocking accusation.

Face-to-face with the person she believes wielded the shovel, Cindy publicly accuses them, leaving the wedding guests shocked to the core. But events soon take a dangerous turn when Cindy catches one of the suspects in a compromising position and points a gun at them.

Everyone's determined to make this a Mitchell wedding to remember, especially since this is Billy and Honey’s fourth attempt to walk down the aisle. Will they finally say ‘I do’ after so many false starts over the years?

Meanwhile, a lovestruck Jack and Ravi ramp up their efforts to prove to her that they are the man she should be with, Denise finds herself even more conflicted.

And Martin desperately fights his feelings for Stacey as he tries to focus on Ruby and their future. Resolved to accept his choice, Stacey tries to forget about her love for Martin, a task that’s proving all but impossible.

With Phil struggling, especially when Lexi needs help, Grant tries to keep the mood light with his brother. However, as the joyful festivities get underway, the Mitchells are totally unaware of the depths of Phil’s despair as he makes a decision.

As Phil’s behaviour causes deep concern for those closest to him, Linda becomes increasingly worried that he’s a danger to himself and her fears are exacerbated when she arrives at No.55 and finds evidence that provides a devastating insight into Phil’s state of mind.

When Linda raises the alarm with Grant and Nigel, the three of them make a desperate bid to get to Phil.

Armed and dangerous, Cindy has a showdown with the person in possession of her missing locket. However, as their confrontation continues, a shock twist turns the situation on its head. Will she finally discover who attacked her on Christmas night?

With Honey and Billy’s wedding leaving everyone feeling the love, Jean tries to talk some sense into Stacey and implores her to tell Martin how she really feels.

Having been rejected before, Stacey is fearful about putting her heart on the line, but Jean’s convinced she needs to be brave. And Zack confides in Martin about his fling with Nicola many years ago.

As Sonia and Bianca try to enjoy the celebrations, they are unaware that killer Reiss is back in Walford and how close danger is.

When Bianca returns home from the wedding, Reiss creeps into No.25 and terrifies her as her worst nightmare comes true. And as Bianca goes all out to ensure that Reiss pays for his terrible crimes, a furious confrontation ensues.

Outside, worlds collide as two dramatic showdowns trigger a terrible series of events which ends with a huge explosion coming from inside The Queen Vic.

Wednesday's hour-long episode, sees total panic at The Vic as the people trapped inside face a desperate fight to escape.

Outside, Jack and others try to heroically save as many of their friends and neighbours as they can, as parts of The Vic teeter dangerously close to collapse. But as the rescue mission gets underway, not everyone will get out of the smouldering Vic alive.

Meanwhile, a terrified Grant, Linda and Nigel at The Arches, desperately trying to reach Phil and beg him not to harm himself. However, having hit rock bottom, Phil believes there is no other way out. Can his loved ones find a way to stop him?

Returning to the Square, Denise discovers the horror unfolding at The Vic. And with Ravi and Jack caught up in what’s happening, Denise must face her feelings for them both. But just who will Denise choose?

It's up to the viewers to decide, as the vote will open at 20:30 on Wednesday 19th February and close at 19:10 on Thursday 20th February, so that the result can be incorporated into the live episode that same evening.

To access the vote, viewers must have a BBC Account and you can register for an account at BBC.co.uk/account, on or before 19th February 2025.

Speaking of which, Thursday sees EastEnders go live at 7.30pm and it’s a life-or-death battle for those still trapped inside The Vic.

For Sonia, who's now in labour in the middle of a total disaster, things take a nightmarish turn. With no medical support on hand and only two traumatised people with her, will Sonia make it out alive?

Outside, family and friends anxiously wait for news about those still trapped, as the emergency services race against time to save their loved ones.

Inside, things are getting worse and worse for the remaining residents, who finds themselves desperately looking for a way out.

For Denise, it’s time she admitted the truth to herself as she reveals who she believes is the man of her future. The audience have been voting between Ravi and Jack, so which of Denise’s two suitors will get a knock on their door that changes everything?

EastEnders continues Monday to Thursday, with an hour-long episode on Wednesday and a live episode on Thursday, at 7.30pm on BBC One
