The news comes after the show's double BAFTA Scotland win!
Today, BBC Three has announced that their hit comedy Dinosaur. which won two BAFTAs at last night's BAFTA Scotland Awards (Writer Film/Television for Ashley Storrie and Matilda Curtis and the Audience Award: Favourite Scot on Screen for Ashley Storrie) will be returning for a second six-part series.
Filmed and set in Glasgow, series one of Dinosaur followed Nina, played by Ashley Storrie, an autistic woman in her 30s who adored her life living with her sister and best friend Evie. However, when Evie rushed intoan engagement after only six weeks and made Nina her maid of honour, Nina was floored.
Forced toreconcile with her sister’s impulsive decision, Nina grappled with what this new challenge meant, which led to a surprising journey of self-discovery, saw her explore her own love interest and consider a move away from her hometown for a job promotion. At its core, Dinosaur is a series about sisterhood, love, friendship and being yourself, no matter how uncomfortable that might make others.
Starring alongside Ashley Storrie in series one was Kat Ronney as sister Evie, David Carlyle as brother Bo, Greg Hemphill as dad Ade, Sally Howitt as mum Diane, Lorn Macdonald as love interest Lee, Danny Ashok as Evie’s fiancé Ranesh and Sanjeev Kohli as Ranesh's father Sachin.
Based on an original idea by Matilda Curtis, Dinosaur was co-created by Matilda and Ashley Storrie and speaking about today's news, Ashley said "I’m dead chuffed that the amazing team that brought series 1 to life has been recognised by our peers in the Scottish film and television industry and I’m so excited that we’re getting to share more of Nina and her family’s journey. Who knows, there might be actual dinosaurs this time round…"
To which Matilda Curtis added "I'm so grateful for the chance to get back into Nina's world again for Series 2. Dinosaur is the best cast and crew working at the top of their game and I'm over the moon the show has been recognised by BAFTA Scotland!"
Produced by Two Brothers Pictures in association with All3Media International, Dinosaur is produced by Brian Coffey, directed by Niamh McKeown and executive produced by Sarah Hammond, Harry Williams, Jack Williams and Katie Churchill.
On the news that Dinosaur will be returning, Sarah Hammond, Exec Producer of Dinosaur and Chief Creative Officer of Two Brothers Pictures, said "Wow. We are beyond grateful to be celebrating the wonderful double whammy of news that is Dinosaur’s BAFTA wins alongside the greenlight on series two."
