FIRST LOOK Bookish

A first look at Mark Gatiss as a bookshop owner who helps the police solve various mysterious crimes.

Alibi has today released a number of first look images from their upcoming six-part drama, Bookish, which has been written and created by Mark Gatiss.

Produced by Eagle Eye Drama, Bookish covers three main cases, with each storyline spanning two-episodes and stars Mark Gatiss as the erudite and unconventional Gabriel Book. From his antiquarian bookshop, Book helps the police to solve a variety of mysterious crimes.

1946 London offers the dynamic, dangerous and chaotic setting for what promises to be a stylish new detective drama, with the whip-smart and debonair Gabriel Book at the very heart of the story.

Book is described as a maverick consultant detective to the local police. The thousands of books that line the shelves of his shop provide him with all the knowledge he needs to solve even the most puzzling of crimes.

Gathered around him are a host of lovable, damaged misfits whom he informally protects, cajoles, and mentors. His wife Trottie, played by Polly Walker, runs the wallpaper shop next door. She’s a charismatic adventuress whom Book loves deeply but not physically, for they are in a ‘lavender’ marriage to help conceal Book’s sexual orientation in a time when it was illegal to be gay.

Starring alongside Mark Gatiss and Polly Walker are Connor Finch as Jack, Elliot Levey as Inspector Bliss, Blake Harrison as Sergeant Morris and Buket Kömür as Nora.

The series also features a wealth of guest stars including Joely Richardson as Sandra Dare, Daniel Mays as Eric Wellbeloved, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd as Stewart Howard, Paul McGann as Mr Kind, Michael Workéyè as Billy Fox, Luke Norris as Jesse MacKendrick, Jonas Nay as Felix and many more.

Bookish will air in 2025 on Alibi
