BBC One's hit drama is returning for one final series.
Today the BBC has released a first look at the second series of hit factual drama The Gold, which is inspired by the true story of the 1983 Brink’s-Mat robbery and the decades-long chain of events that followed.
Following the conviction of some of those involved in the theft and handling of the Brink’s-Mat gold, the police realised that those criminals only ever had half of it.
Series two explores what happened to the other half, and the criminal fortune it created. As the police investigation continues, it becomes a tense, high-stakes journey into international money laundering and organised crime, the police embark on a series of dramatic manhunts as they desperately try to solve the longest and most expensive investigation in the history of the Metropolitan Police.
Returning cast members include Hugh Bonneville as Brian Boyce, Charlotte Spencer as Nicki Jennings, Emun Elliott as Tony Brightwell, Tom Cullen as John Palmer, Stefanie Martini as Marnie Palmer and Sam Spruell as Charlie Miller as the investigation around what happened to the gold continues to unfold.
Additional returning cast includes Peter Davison as Assistant Commissioner Gordon Stewart, Amanda Drew as CS Cath McClean and Silas Carson as Harry Bowman.
These first look images introduce us to new cast members Tom Hughes, Stephen Campbell Moore, Joshua McGuire, Tamsin Topolski, Joshua Samuels and Rochelle Neil.
Also joining the second series of The Gold will be Antonia Desplat, Lorna Brown, Thomas Coombes, Sean Teale and Olivia Grant with further details of their roles yet to be revealed.
Speaking about the upcoming series, Neil Forsyth, creator, writer and executive producer sais "The second and final part of The Gold sees the story of the Brink’s-Mat robbery, and everything that stemmed from it, become even more expansive, surprising and international."

Made by Tannadice Pictures, The Gold is written by Neil Forsyth, directed by Patrick Harkins and produced by Charlie Leech. The second seires is executive produced by Neil Forsyth and Ben Farrell for Tannadice Pictures, with Nick Lambon for the BBC.
