How long before Yaz gets what she wants?
4-10 JANUARY
In near meltdown after receiving a gift supposedly from Heath, Holly is comforted by Yaz, who pounces on her vulnerable state and maintains a caring façade as she attempts to coax some sort of confession out of Holly.
As Holly recounts her traumatic relationship with Heath, and his final demise, Yaz listens intently and works hard to keep her internal fury in check. None the wiser to Yaz’s scheme, Holly shares with Sadie and Byron how glad she is to have her boss’s back.
Meanwhile, Yaz is also still stinging from Nicolette’s rebuke, hopeful she can make it up to her.
At Sadie’s urging, Holly rids herself of Heath’s perfume by donating it to the Sonya Rebecchi Foundation and after the symbolic act takes a weight off her shoulders, Holly is able to focus on organising Erinsborough Lights Up.
But when Holly confesses to Aaron that she hopes to impress Yaz enough to earn an invite to follow her to the States, he quietly fears he’s signed up for more than he can handle.
All seems to be going well as they meet up with Kendall, Yaz’s hotshot lighting tech who has just arrived from America with Yaz’s all-important custom control boards. That is, until Holly catches a whiff of his perfume.
After learning that Kendall just purchased the bottle she donated to the Foundation, Holly teeters on hysteria and flees, leaving Kendall unimpressed by the erratic behaviour, and alarmed when Aaron admits he has little lighting experience.
Managing to talk Kendall down from complaining to Yaz, Aaron urges Holly to get back on site. But when she returns, Holly finds that a missing truck has put them even further behind schedule.
In an attempt to catch up and save face with Yaz, Aaron overloads a trolley with the control boards. When Holly, trying to help, moves them, the trolley tips, sending both of them to the ground and the control boards into the Lassiters fountain!
When Holly sees the waterlogged control boards, she panics and is terrified Yaz will sack her for this. But to her surprise, Yaz takes the news in her stride, saying accidents happen, vowing to reassure Holly that her job is not in jeopardy.
When Holly confides in her that she was triggered by Kendall wearing the perfume Holly tried to get rid of, Yaz, under the guise of being a caring boss, tells Holly that having such a huge reaction isn’t a normal response, and is clearly a sign that Holly is struggling.
After Holly admits that she’s had a hard time lately, and it doesn’t help having Karl and Susan overseas, Yaz insists that Holly can lean on her if she needs support, and Holly’s in awe of how (seemingly) caring Yaz is. Feeling the need to show Yaz her skills, Holly looks into entertainment options to kick Lights Up another level.
Meanwhile, Yaz confides in Nicolette about the lingering questions surrounding her brother’s death, and Nicolette admits if she were in Yaz’s shoes, she would do whatever it takes to get the truth.
Taking this on board, Yaz plants some Lights Up audio visual equipment in the Kennedy house. Having been given an early night to get some much-needed rest, Holly is later woken by the haunting sound of Heath’s voice piercing the darkened house.
Discombobulated, Holly assumes she’s hallucinating as Yaz watches on, thrilled to see her
spiral further.
Later, Nicolette tells a disappointed Yaz she doesn’t think they should try to resurrect anything romantic, given that Yaz will be heading back to the US at some point in the future.
But when Aaron relays how caring Yaz was towards Holly, Nicolette is encouraged to give her another chance, telling Yaz she can’t deny their connection. And in spite of an uncertain future, decides to give things another go.
