Are their dreams of having another child over?
7-13 DECEMBER
Struggling to accept the fact that she will never bear a child again after her accident and abdominal surgery, Cara is unsettled and on a short-fuse, frustrating Remi’s attempts to manage her post-surgical recovery, and she'soverly critical and untrusting of JJ.
Cara pushes JJ too far when she catches him kissing Nell in the house, prompting JJ to leave with Nell, while simultaneously causing more friction with Remi by insisting she was only doing what needed to be done.
Soon, Remi is frank and tells Cara that she won’t stand for any more of her behaviour that jeopardises their relationship with the kids and she needs to talk to her, rather than express her pain in painful ways.
Breaking down, Cara releases all the pent-up anguish attached to the accident and her infertility. Not wanting to lose the chance of expanding their family, Cara unilaterally decides Remi can now bear any new baby, something that worries Remi enormously.
Ultimately, the truth comes out and Remi stuns Cara when she says she is not up for it. It was
fine when Cara wanted to get pregnant, but carrying a child is not something that Remi is willing to do.
Reeling from Remi’s bombshell, Cara assumed they were on the same page about Remi carrying another baby now that Cara’s unable, and she’s devastated to learn it’s something Remi simply can’t bring herself to do.
Despite shared compassion for each other’s perspective, there’s distance and grief between them.
While Remi is supported by Aaron, Cara’s sadness is clocked by Dex, who shares a warm moment of affection with his mum that reminds her how much she has to be thankful for. And Cara and Remi return to each other with love and tenderness.
Later, Cara discards the antique high-chair she’d begun to restore, bittersweet as she lays to rest her dream of having another child.
