Sarah and Daniel rush to Turkey as Bethany finds herself in intensive care in Corrie

What has happened to her?

21-27 SEPTEMBER

This autumn, Coronation Street’s Bethany Platt is set to face a life changing trauma when a cosmetic procedure in Turkey goes disastrously wrong.

After accepting a job with a cosmetic surgery company to write an advertorial on their new facility in Turkey, she makes the decision to undergo liposuction at the clinic.

Viewers will see Bethany, played by Lucy Fallon, in a critical condition after contracting sepsis as a result of a botched procedure, leading to her living with a permanent stoma.

The storyline comes as the UK has seen a significant rise in patients seeking corrective treatments from botched cosmetic surgeries performed abroad.

When Carla suggests that with Bethany out of the way, Daniel and Daisy might get back together, Sarah is dismissive.

Having returned home from visiting Daisy, Daniel takes a call from a Turkish number and breaks the news to Sarah that Bethany is in intensive care and they need to go to Turkey immediately.

Whilst frantically packing a bag for Turkey, Sarah notices that her passport has expired.

Later, having been warned that Bethany’s infection is severe, Daniel also informs Sarah that due to issues with travel insurance, Bethany can’t leave the country until her medical bills are paid.

As Bethany regains consciousness, Sarah has to break some life-changing news.

After confiding in Daisy, Daniel hatches a plan to set up a crowdfunding page to pay for Bethany’s £25k medical fees.

But Bethany takes a turn for the worse and Sarah finds her in a terrible state and barely able to breathe.

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1
