The news follows the huge success of series six which ended last night.
Series 6 of Unforgotten, came to an end last night with a gripping finale that solved the mystery of Gerry Cooper's murder, the missing husband of history lecturer Juliet Cooper.
Today, ITV has announced that the hit drama Unforgotten, written and created by Chris Lang will be returning for an incredible seventh series with Sinéad Keenan and Sanjeev Bhaskar returning to play DCI Jessica 'Jessie' James and DI Sunil 'Sunny' Khan.
Both actors announced the news today via social media, unveiling a script for series seven along with a message thanking viewers for their support.
The first episode of the most recent series of Unforgotten has now been watched by 7.4m viewers, making it the second highest performing drama of the last year across all channels on 14-day viewing.
Unforgotten has also been streamed over 24 million times this year alone on ITVX, 18.3 million streams for the latest series, and 6.3 million streams with viewers watching earlier series.
Series creator and Executive Producer Chris Lang will write the seventh series, which is produced by Mainstreet Pictures and will be executive produced by Guy de Glanville with Andy Wilson returning to direct.
Speaking about today's news, Chris Lang said "I am so delighted to have been asked to create another series of Unforgotten, and given the opportunity once again to follow Sunny, Jess and their brilliant team, as they attempt to crack another cold case."
