Get ready to lose yourself in some great dramas this week.

This week's best telly includes not one, but four brand new dramas including BBC One's new Agatha Christie adaptation, Prime Video's new psychological thriller, Channel 4's new contemporary crime noir thriller and ITV1's new drama telling the hidden story of Ruth Ellis.
Plus, The Bay finally returns to ITV1 for its fifth series and Jack Whitehall is on hosting duties for this year's BRIT Awards, whilst Jonathan Ross returns to host ITV’s coverage of The Oscars.

The BRIT Awards are back and after 4 years, so too is Jack Whitehall who returns to host the biggest night in music live from The O2 arena in London, marking the fifth time he has hosted.
Confirmed to be performing on the night are Sam Fender, Lola Young, JADE, Teddy Swims, The Last Dinner Party and Myles Smith who has already taken home this year’s BRITs Rising Star trophy and is nominated for Best New Artist, Song of the Year and Pop Act.
We also know that pop powerhouse Sabrina Carpenter will also perform on the night as she receives the prestigious Global Success award at this year’s event, which has previously only been presented to One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Adele and Sam Smith.
With the most nominations to her name, five in total, Charli xcx who has already won Songwriter of the Year is set for a big night as she hopes to take home Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Dance Act and Pop Act.
Also up for multiple awards are Dua Lipa, Ezra Collective and The Last Dinner Party with four nominations each.
Receiving their first BRIT nomination in over 30 years, with three are The Cure and another landmark nomination goes to The Beatles, who are shortlisted for Song of the Year for their historic single Now & Then, nearly 50 years since their last BRIT nomination at the inaugural BRIT Awards in 1977.

BBC One's latest Agatha Christie adaptation, Towards Zero, follows the aftermath of a scandalous celebrtity between British tennis star Nevile Strange and his ex-wife Audrey, played by Ella Lily Hyland and Oliver Jackson-Cohen.
They decide to spend the summer of 1936 together at Gull’s Point, their childhood home and the coastal estate of Nevile's aunt, Lady Tressilian, played by Anjelica Huston.
With unfinished business between the former childhood sweethearts, plus the presence of Nevile’s new wife Kay, played by Mimi Keene, tensions are running high. Add to this a long-suffering lady’s companion, a mysterious gentleman’s valet, an exiled cousin with a grudge, a venerable family lawyer, an inquisitive orphan and a French con man, and soon there will be murder.
A troubled detective must rediscover his purpose to untangle a toxic web of jealousy, deceit and dysfunction. Can he solve the crime before another victim meets their death?

RETURNING DRAMA

For some unknown reason, we've had to wait two years for the fifth series of The Bay, despite it being available on BritBox North America since September 2024. But that wait is FINALLY over as the new series launches on ITV1 this week.
Set in Morecambe, Marsha Thomason remains as Morecambe’s MIU Family Liaison Officer DS Jenn Townsend alongside cast regulars Daniel Ryan, Erin Shanagher and Andrew Dowbiggin.
When 23-year-old university student Hannah is found dead on the edge of the docks, Morecambe’s MIU team has another case to solve. Jenn, who is returning to work following the death of her father, pushes aside her own grief to support Hannah’s bitterly divided family.
With the stakes of the investigation high, Jenn and the team dig deeper into the case, uncovering hidden friendships and secret liaisons as anger rises in the student community. As the intensity increases and the team peel back the complicated layers of Hannah’s life and the secrets within it, Jenn must reconcile her personal and professional struggles as she grapples to solve the case, come to terms with her own loss, and build bridges with her family.
Joining the new series as guest cast are Leanne Best, Neil Maskell, David Troughton, Stephen Wight and Ceallach Spellman as well as Tara Lynne O’Neill who joins as Sinead, DI Tony Manning’s new partner.

It's the most prestigious night in film, where history will be made and as the 97th Academy Awards take place in Hollywood, Los Angeles, Jonathan Ross will be on hand with with live commentary, special celebrity guests and film experts, and live chats with all the stars on the red carpet courtesy of Ross King.
Coverage begins on ITV1 at 10.30pm whilst the coveted awards ceremony, hosted by Conan O’Brien, begins at midnight. and like last year, Jonathan Ross will be joined by movie-loving guests to comment on Hollywood’s biggest night of the year.
This year's nominations are led by the French-language musical Emilia Pérez, which made history with 13 nods, followed closely by The Brutalist and Wicked with 10 nods each. Plus Demi Moore recieves her first ever Oscar nomination for The Substance.

Martin Compston and Anjli Mohindra lead Prime Video's new psychological thriller Fear as Martyn and Rebecca who are excited to make a fresh start away from London and move into a beautiful house in Glasgow with their two young children.
At first the new home seems idyllic, but when their neighbour Jan, played by Solly McLeod, makes unnerving comments to Rebecca it turns out to be the start of something far more intimidating. Facing accusations that are every parent's worst nightmare, and with the authorities refusing to step in, Martyn and Rebecca feel they have nowhere to turn to for help.

ITV's new drama A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story tells the hidden story of Ruth Ellis, played by Lucy Boynton, and exposes the timeless British obsessions of class, sex and death.
Set in 1955 in the glamorous and intoxicating world of London club-land, Ruth found huge acclaim, aged 28, as the capitals youngest club manager. But her success soon unraveled as she became entwined in an abusive relationship with racing driver David Blakely.
On trial for his murder, Ruth was condemned to hang by a system which judged her for far more than her crime.
The four-part drama is based on Carol Ann Lee’s acclaimed biography A Fine Day for Hanging: The Real Ruth Ellis Story, and has been adapted by Kelly Jones.

Tamara Lawrance plays ex-Scotland Yard detective Millie-Jean Black who returns home to Jamaica after the death of her mother and joins the Kingston police force.
When a local schoolgirl goes missing, Millie and her partner Curtis, played by Gershwyn Eustache Jnr, uncover suspicious ties to a prominent family, just as Scotland Yard inspector Luke Holborn, played by Joe Dempsie, arrives with his own agenda.
Haunted by ghosts of her past and present, including a sibling who refuses to be saved, and a child who can't be found, Millie's search for the truth leads her on an intercontinental cat-and-mouse chase, set against the post-colonial landscape of Jamaica and the UK.
