WHAT TO WATCH 14-20 September

Strictly is back! But who will this year's celebs be paired with?


This week's best telly includes the return of Strictly as we find out who this year's celebrities will be partnered with and dating show fans are spoilt for choice this week as Married at First Sight UK and My Mum, Your Dad both return, fighting for our affections at 9pm.


Elsewhere, Channel 5's jewel in their crown, All Creatures Great & Small returns for its fifth series, but not before they launch The Wives, a brand new six-part drama starring Angela Griffin, Jo Joyner and Tamzin Outhwaite.


There's also brand new drama on BBC One with real-time thriller Nightsleeper and on Prime Video with A Very Royal Scandal, based on THAT interview between Emily Maitlis and Prince Andrew.

 LAUNCH SHOW

STRICTLY COME DANCING
 

Saturday 14th September at 7:20pm on BBC One


Hoping to put its recent controversies to one side, Strictly Come Dancing returns this week for its 22nd series, celebrating 20 years on our screens with a brand new cast of celebrities, each hoping to be lifting that famous glitterball trophy come December.


This year's Class of '24 are Sam Quek MBE, Shayne Ward, Tasha Ghouri, Dr Punam Krishnan, Pete Wicks, Jamie Borthwick, Nick Knowles, JB Gill, Chris McCausland, Montell Douglas, Toyah Willcox, Wynne Evans, Paul Merson, Sarah Hadland and Tom Dean MBE. And during this week's launch show we'll see the moment they found out who they'll be partnered with.


And as Strictly Come Dancing welcomes Amy Dowden MBE back to the Ballroom floor, there'll be a special, celebratory group dance featuring all of the professional Dancers to mark her momentous return to the show.

Written by Nick Leather, BBC One's new six-part drama, Nightsleeper, is a real-time thriller set on a sleeper train travelling from Glasgow to London and follows what happens when a government agency desperately tries to intervene in the rapidly-escalating events onboard.


Can two people who’ve never met, one on the train and one not, work together to save the lives of its disparate group of passengers as the Heart of Britain service hurtles towards what might quite literally be its final destination?

Channel 5's newest drama, The Wives, stars Jo Joyner, Angela Griffin and Tamzin Outhwaite and follows the unravelling of one family in a summer that changes all their lives.


One year ago, Annabelle Morgan disappeared while on holiday in Malta, leaving behind her husband Charlie and daughter, Sky. The police concluded that she must have fallen to her death from the perilous cliff edge where they found her phone.


This summer the Morgan clan return to Malta where they all have holiday apartments. The family want to move on with their lives but when Charlie arrives with a new young girlfriend, questions resurface about what happened to Annabelle.


The wives - Beth, Natasha and Sylvie, begin to suspect that Annabelle’s death wasn’t an accident and undertake their own investigation.

Following the huge success of My Mum, Your Dad in 2023, the dating show with a difference, hosted by Davina McCall is back on ITV1 for a second series as a brand new line-up of single parents hoping to have a second chance at love.


Expect more heartfelt emotion as their grown-up kids take the reins once more but this time their parents are entrusting them wholeheartedly to be their ‘dating experts’.


Throughout the process, the dating decisions and the little notes of encouragement and words of advice they leave their parents are now all the more meaningful.


With plenty of surprises and new twists along the way, the grown-up kids once again get a front row seat to all the action, as their mums and dads hope to find a romantic connection at the retreat. And, at the end, they’ll ultimately decide if they give their blessing to any potential matches.

Wedding bells are ringing out across the land as Married at First Sight UK returns to E4 this week for a brand-new series, promising the usual cocktail of love, romance and drama, as a fresh batch of brave singles prepare to say ‘I do’ to a complete stranger.


As always, there’ll be the usual stunning wedding ceremonies and sun-soaked honeymoons as the couples all enter into this life changing experiment.


They’ll move in together, attend dramatic dinner parties and reunite at commitment ceremonies where every marriage is put under the microscope and scrutinised by relationship experts Paul C Brunson, Charlene Douglas and Mel Schilling.

 RETURNING DRAMA

All Creatures Great & Small is back for its fifth series and as we return to Darrowby, it's Spring 1941 and young baby Jimmy is keeping the Skeldale House family on their toes.


Helen is getting the hang of motherhood with James away at RAF Abingdon, Mrs Hall and Siegfried are enjoying having a little one around, and Carmody is now part of the furniture.


With World War II now fully underway, Siegfried is taking up the slack at the surgery, Mrs Hall and Helen are considering their contribution within the community, and Carmody is eager to step up. Siegfried is keen to have everyone back, but Tristan’s surprise return won't be quite as straightforward as he hoped.
