 RETURNING DRAMA

THE TEACHER

Monday 9th to Thursday 12th September at 9m on Channel 5

This week sees Channel 5's hit drama The Teacher, which previously starred Sheridan Smith, return with a brand new story and a brand new cast, led by Kara Tointon, Will Mellor and Emmett J Scanlan.

Series two follows the story of Dani, a teacher who loves her job. She’s a mentor and inspiration to her students, but what she lacks is a properly functioning marriage with real intimacy and mutual desire. This leads her into an impulsive affair with a fellow colleague that at first answers all her needs, but soon spirals out of control.

When a pupil goes missing on a school trip, Dani rightly blames herself for being too easily distracted. When things take a sinister turn, she is forced to lie, and quickly finds her life falling to pieces. She risks everything to right the wrongs that she has, in part, been responsible for.

 RETURNING DRAMA

WATERLOO ROAD

Tuesday 10th September at 8pm on BBC One

Waterloo Road is back for another term and with its new academy status, a new school building and the arrival of Jason Manford as new headteacher Steve Savage, Waterloo Road sees a changing of the guard.

Steve is a charismatic charmer who impresses everyone he meets. Smartly dressed, intelligent, confident, assertive and persuasive, he's a self-made man who doesn't mind getting his hands dirty to achieve results and believes children respond to goals and discipline.

He's also not scared of crossing a line if he thinks it will help the greater good and can be ruthless when it comes to protecting his career, but he will do it with a smile on his face and a joke so no one even notices. When his career and entire life is on the line, we learn just how far he'll go to save himself.

Battling some expected teething problems, the students and teachers attempt to find their feet and make big decisions that affect their future at the school. But when a chain of unfortunate circumstance, and one bad choice, turns lives into chaos, there are tragic repercussions for everyone at Waterloo Road.

This series also sees Saira Choudhry as maths teacher Nisha Chandra who's in her forties and doesn't particularly like teaching or maths. In fact, she's not that interested in working at anything. A lazy genius, Nisha could have done a lot with her maths brain but she became a teacher to support her family having fallen pregnant quite young. A decision she regrets daily.

TASKMASTER

Thursday 12th September at 9pm on Channel 4

Taskmaster is back for its 18th series, and this time Andy Zaltzman, Babátúndé Aléshé, Emma Sidi, Jack Dee and Rosie Jones are the five phenoms who have willingly submitted to the toughest physical and mental examination on television.

As Greg and his faultlessly loyal assistant Alex Horne welcome five fairly fresh bodies for a crack at TV's greatest prize: Greg's disembodied head, painted gold and stuck to a plinth, will their attempts to defuse a large robot, push a golden envelope or simply count some chairs impress the Taskmaster, Greg Davies?

In the first episode, this year's contestants attempt to impress the Taskmaster by searching for a seal, hurling yoga balls in a theme park, and force-feeding Alex a bowlful of bubblegum.
