The Traitors is BACK!


As we see out 2024 and welcome in 2025, Rob Beckett joins his mate Romesh for a spot of darts on New Year's Eve before taking part in a celebrity special of Gladiators on New Year's Day, before we all sit down at 8pm to watch the return of... The Traitors!


There's lots of great drama to enjoy, with the return of SAS: Rogue Heroes for a second series on BBC One and Netflix will be hoping to replicate the success of Fool Me Once with a new Harlan Coben adaptation, Missing You.


And finally, it's time to bid a fond farewell to Gavin & Stacey with a new documentary looking back on the iconic comedy and Vera, which after 14 series, will be leaving our screens.

New Year's Day on Netflix


This New Year's Day, Netflix will be hoping to replicate the success of Fool Me Once with a new Harlan Coben adaptation, Missing You.


The five-part drama follows Detective Kat Donovan, played by Rosalind Eleazar, whose life is rocked when her fiancé Josh, played by Ashley Walters, who disappeared eleven years ago, suddenly resurfaces in strange circumstances.


While Kat investigates the case of a missing person, Josh’s reappearance forces her to dive back into the mystery surrounding her father’s murder, played by Sir Lenny Henry, and uncover long-buried secrets from her past.


Missing You sends Kat on a personal journey as she turns her policing brilliance inwards, unravelling her own life and those around her. Despite the big twists and shocking turns, Kat’s journey is one of emotional grounding as the viewer follows a fearless and intelligent Detective as she is forced to confront one of the most traumatic and vulnerable moments in her life.

Ahead of a brand new series of Gladiators coming soon to BBC One, four famous faces will nervously lace up their trainers as they compete in one of the toughest gameshows on Earth.


Hosted by Bradley and Barney Walsh, this one-hour special sees comedian Rob Beckett versus TV presenter and comedian Joel Dommett, and Breakfast TV presenter Louise Minchin versus comedian and Ted Lasso star Ellie Taylor, Face the ultimate test of speed and strength up against the power of the Gladiators, before going head to head in the iconic Eliminator.

It's back! This New Year's Day, BBC One are kicking 2025 off in style with a brand new series of The Traitors as Claudia Winkleman welcomes a new group of strangers to a beautiful castle in the Scottish Highlands to play the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust, in the hope of winning up to £120,000.


But hidden amongst them are The Traitors whose job is to secretly murder their fellow players, without getting caught. And it’s up to the others, the Faithful, to try to detect who the traitors are, and banish them from the game, before they become their next victim.


For the lucky ones who survive to the end, they have the chance of winning that life-changing cash. But if a Traitor remains undetected, they’ll take it all. This series, it’s a whole new game. Who will make it through?

This New Year, Brenda Blethyn OBE is making an emotional return to Vera for its fourteenth and final series, which spans two epic feature-length episodes which intertwine gripping murder mysteries with the heartfelt narrative of Vera’s personal journey.


In the first episode, airing on New Year's Day, DCI Vera Stanhope is called to the banks of the Tyne, where the body of a young man has been discovered by some anglers. A tangled web of a broken relationship, secret love, grudges, regret, and fraud begins to emerge. Has our former inmate been served cold justice, or does his death run deeper?

SAS: ROGUE HEROES
 

New Year's Day at 9pm on BBC One


New Year's Day sees the welcome return of Steven Knight's SAS: Rogue Heroes for a second series which rejoins the troops, in spring, 1943 as Jack O’Connell, Connor Swindells, Sofia Boutella and Dominic West all return.


Paddy Mayne takes control of the SAS following David Stirling’s capture, as attention turns from the conflict in North Africa to mainland Europe. But GHQ have cast doubt over the future of the regiment, while the creation of a second unit and an influx of new arrivals make things even more difficult for the men.


Can they prove that the SAS remains essential to the war, wherever it may lead them?
